The AK-74u is a fully automatic submachine gun, introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops. The AK-74u is a shortenned verion of the AK-74, the 'u' standing for the Russian word for shortenned. The AK-74u was developed in 1979 and was utilised in the soviet-afghan war, after the American's gave Afghani forces weapons to combat soviet communism. It is still used to the present day using the soviets 5.45x39mm rounds. The AK-74u has seen three seperate installations, featuring in Call of Duty: 4, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: 3 and Black Ops.
The gun features heavily in Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer, however, it does not excell in the zombies arena. Moon is the only map where the AK-74u becomes a part of the survivalist's armoury. The gun's limitations in terms of ammo are the AK-74u's downfall. Even Pack-a-Punched, the gun's innability to lend itself to higher rounds makes it a farcicle endevour. With a total of 180 munitions it has the largest of all submachine guns in game, other than maps that feature the MP40.
Naturally, Speed Cola is not a neccesity as the AK-74u's reload time is naturally very fast. Instead, Double Tap or Stamin-Up would be recommended to aid your players ability to change position and lay heavier fire on the hordes of zombies.
Expending 5000 points for the Pack-a-Punch upgrade grants you the 'AK-74fu2'. Damage is increased and total munitions are doubled to 320. Magazine size is also doubled to 40, however reload time and fire rate does not differ with the upgrade. The Pack-a-Punch version also features a custom Red Dot sight which aids in aiming and will help you maximise the limited ammunition available.
A small and lightweight military service cartridge, the 5.45x39mm was introduced in 1974 by the former soviet union. Early tests showed a pronounced tumbling effect to increase potential wounding, most bodily organs are too flexible to be heavily damaged when hit.
