History:[]

The MP40 is a fully automatic submachine gun, used in World War II, and saw limited use in the Cold War Era. The MP40 is loaded with 32 9x19mm parabellum rounds. The MP40 is a simplified version of the MP38, which in turn was a simplified version of the MP36, developed by Manufacturer, 'Erma Werke'. Contrary to popular belief, the MP40 was not as wide spread as you may see in general media. And were issued primarily to Paratroops and platoon and squad leaders. Most other soldiers carried the Kar98k. However after the battle of Stalingrad, Germany learned more of Soviet tactics, where the Kar98k was easily outgunned in urban combat. As such, the MP40 was in high demand, but materials and labour were too expensive with the Kar98k also in production. After 1943, the Kar was replaced outright by the MP40, and the new MP44 later known as the STG44.

In-Game:[]

The MP40 is the only World at War weapon to return in the Black Ops maps, being found in Kino Der Toten and Call of The Dead, two areas away from the starting area, always costing 1000 points. The fire rate is fairly low, being the slowest of all SMG's. Also slowest in terms of movement speed. Despite this, it has the most ammo of all sub-machine guns by far, with a total of 192, excluding the 32 in the magazine.

Recommended Perks:[]

Double tap also brings some much needed fire-rate increase, and, to make up for the slower running speed, Stamin-Up is a wise choice if no other perks take your fancy.

spare munitions remain at 192, failing to increase. However, The Afterburner still has a higher ammo count than most SMG's, second to the upgraded AK-74Fu2. No other changes to note, but with a vibrant history and healthy statistics, The Afterburner is a dangerous wonder to behold.

Ammunition:[]

The 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge was introduced in 1902 by 'Deutsch Waffen Und Munitionsfabriken' for their Luger Pistol. Parabellum is derived from the company's motto "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum" (if you seek peace, prepare for war). Also being standardised and used by NATO with multiple variants since WW1 such as a Plastic Projectile for training purposes.
