History:[]

The Kar98K, formally ze Karabiner 98 Kurtz, or Carbine 98 Short, It is a bolt action rifle, adopted as the standard service rifle by the Wehrmacht in 1935, until the end of the war in 1945. The Kar chambers 5 separate 7.92Mauser cartridge's at once with its stripper clip, loaded into its internal magazine. Alternatively loaded one by one by hand as the scoped variant demonstrates. Sadly during the Kar's time period, semi-automatic weapons became of more effective use, as closer range combat became more prevalent in WW2, making the slow, bulky and heavy bolt action Kar98K easily defeated.

In-Game:[]

The Kar98K can be found in all World at War maps, with the exception of Shi No Numa, and all found in the first rooms with the exception of the American side of Verrukt, again with the exception of the black ops version of Verrukt. With a set price of a meager 200 points, it comes with 55 rounds, only 5 of which can be loaded at any given time. Staying fairly ineffective even in the earlier rounds, with its slow bolt action fire-rate and low damage. Considering only 100 extra points are needed for the superior semi automatic close by, the points being easily obtained with your Colt and knife, the Kar is unfortunately considered redundant, and is bought on a whim. A scoped version is available, but restricted to Nacht Der Untoten in the first floor cabinet for 1500 points. The scope version has a unique crosshair not seen on any other. Again however, much like its unsighted counterpart, reasonably redundant, as your perception of zombies inside the main building is lost. And any other weapon will suffice in the case of close range engagement, although the high increase of damage should be noted.

Pack-a-Punch:[]

Expending 5000 points on the basic Kar98k, you will receive The Armageddeon. A foolish and silly change of pace if points are of no concern. Upgrading magazine size by 3 and spare rounds by another 5, resulting in 68 total munitions. Being only available in the Der Riese facility, you will encounter the HellHounds, with which the Armaggeddeon does a poor duty at taming, and should be avoided at all costs. Worse still, the Armageddeon loses its 1 shot headshot kill ability after round 17. More so, the matter of muntions becomes a more prevelant issue in the rounds after 20; rendering it an impossible option after then.

Recommended Perks:[]

Even with the assistance of Double Tap, the Armageddeons fire-rate remains it's weakest factor.

Ammunition:[]

The 7.92x57mm Mauser round was adopted by the german Empire in 1905, and was the german service cartridge in both World Wars. Still popular for sport and hunting and later named simply, to the 8mm Mauser.
